Version Differences

Since the public release in 2003 and all the way until the shutdown in 2013, Toontown Online has changed quite a lot. Some of those changes were huge and game-changing, while others were very minor. This page will try to document all of them.

Comparing 2003 to 2013

The font color for True Friends used to be a darker blue,
until it was changed to the same font color as the main player's Toon.

The font colors for Toon (orange) and NPC (green) names were switched in October or November 2005.

Back during the Beta Tests and when the game was released, level 6 gags were the best gags available, and the experience limit was 9999. In October 2006, Level 7 gags were tested in Test Toontown, and weeks later, were released on the live server.

The original Pick-A-Toon had a different color scheme, as well as a completely different look.

Your toon was naked before you reached the clothing section of the Make-A-Toon, and the old selection of species lacked Bear, Pig and Monkey, but they were added after the Toon Species Election in 2004.

The old fishing was based on a cranking mechanic, and the UI did not feature any jellybean jar and bucket icon. It's currently unknown when the old fishing was implemented, but according to the release notes, the current fishing was implemented on the live server in November 2003, with prior testing taking place on the Test Toontown server in late October.

Other Changes

  • SpeedChat Plus was not present back in 2003. You could only type freely to True Friends.
  • Doodles' font color was also green.
  • You were able to make your toon's name all lowercase in the original Make-A-Toon.
  • Grand Prix, reverse courses and 3 other tracks in Goofy Speedway were not available until December 2005 on the test server.
